No Vacancy. Hospital Staffs Full, No Work For New Grads

no-jobsHere is an interesting article that is a complete 180° from many recent news stories regarding the current state of the nursing job market. I’ve posted a few in the past about how, despite the economic downturn, health care (nursing in particular) is one sector of the job market that seems to be withstanding the financial crunch. This article, however, talks about the struggles of many new grads with trying to find employment in a hospital setting. Apparently many hospitals are reporting that staff vacancies are at an all time low. When the time omes to fill these positions, who do you think the hospitals are going to hire? New grads or experienced RN’s? I find this an interesting paradox because, how does one get experience if no one is willing to hire you without having experience. I have a feeling that hospitals are going to suffer as a result of this current hiring trend in the future when more vacancies start opening up and there are no more experienced nurses in the new hire pool.

How many of you new grads out there are having trouble finding work? When did you graduate? How long did it take you to find work? Sound off in the comment section of this post.

I graduated in May 2009, took NCLEX in July 2009, and have searching since to find a job…no-one replies, no answers, you do not get yeah or neh. I graduated with a high GPA…did pretty well in school and clinicals…..I feel so frustrated right now….my loans will be matured in November 2009…I have no job and no way of paying it….this is terrible because the hospitals in NY do a credit check on you…..so I am subject to bad credit with not being able to pay my loans…and possibly not being hired.

I cannot gain experience if no one wants to give me a chance. The nursing homes wouldn’t hire me because I have a BSN, and the hospitals are not hiring period. If they do, they are only taking students that are from NYU, Columbia, and Ivy league schools. Some of these recruiters are prejudice as it is…..if your name sounds foreign they will put your resume in the garbage. I got that info directly from the best hosp in the state….someone in HR. Sickens me but what else is there to do……just wait….

Hi i graduated in May 2009 took my Nclex in October. I am having a difficult time finding a job. I have tried apply, but no luck yet. Not even an Interview. I am very disappointed and i hope the hospital will take us. I have even tried applying at a Skill Nursing Facility, and haven’t heard anything from them either. RIght now i am sitting at home like a bum with a RN license that i can only display with.
